As fans gather this weekend to take in the tradition and magic of THE PLAYERS, Comcast Business will be keeping spectators and the PGA TOUR connected like never before.
As a Proud Partner of THE PLAYERS Championship and the PGA TOUR, Comcast Business supports vital aspects of the tournament fan experience and operations - from powering the network broadcast feeds to enabling concession point-of-sale systems. This year, Comcast Business is helping bring to life the iconic 17th hole “Island Green” at TPC Sawgrass. Already one of the most famous par-3s in the world, Comcast Business will unveil an interactive feature to fans that allows engagement and interactivity like never before. Using advanced technology by engineers from Comcast and SKY, Game the Green™ is a new game experience that will enable fans at TPC Sawgrass to make predictions on where shots will land based on real-time analytics, bringing them right into the action and giving them opportunities to climb a leaderboard and win prizes.
The Comcast Business Pavilion provides a comfortable space for business guests to stay connected to the office while on the course. With bookable meeting space, live technology demos, and live broadcasts, guests can keep up with tournament play without missing a beat at the office. Powered by Gig-speed WiFi and Xfinity X1, the area means work and pleasure can be mixed.
Each fan will be able to personalize their on-site experience through the PGA TOUR app. Features like enhanced coverage let fans see every shot of the tournament through 24 different streams. It requires over 120 4K cameras to capture the action, and a powerful broadband connection from Comcast Business to transmit all that data.
The PGA TOUR app also features TOURCAST, a cutting-edge platform that delivers unparalleled shot analysis. Interactive 3D shot renderings, supported by high-capacity network connectivity, give fans intimate views of their favorite players. Before, the distance from where fans were on the green compared to the players could make it difficult to see. Now, they can point their phones toward the tee box and watch an AR recreation of each shot in real-time.
Watching the play on the course is just one part of the experience. When ready to order food or drinks, fans can take advantage of mobile ordering and digital kiosks provided by Rivalry Tech, leading provider of self-serve ordering technology. Thanks to a strong, integrated network, fans can dine at their convenience and still catch every moment.
“The relationship with Comcast Business is very important to how we deliver a successful THE PLAYERS Championship and many of our other tournaments throughout the season. They provide the conduit connecting the course to the rest of the world. Connectivity has to be reliable, and it has to be managed in different capacities depending on what we’re doing. As the PGA TOUR thinks ahead to how fans will consume content in the future, its partnership with Comcast Business will be key to unlocking new innovations.” said Scott Gutterman, SVP of Digital Operations, PGA TOUR.
Adaptability is essential as technology changes, both on the fairway and off course. Watching golf is no longer a passive event for guests. Golf fans expect a complete, individualized experience that integrates with their smart devices. Businesses must be able to shift their goals and perspectives to meet their customer’s dynamic needs.
Whether it's ordering food, following favorite players along the course, or making predictions on player performance in real-time, fans demand an array of options to enjoy their experience without worrying about connection issues.
The advanced networking system provided by Comcast Business helps power an unforgettable memory for each guest at THE PLAYERS Championship.
Coined the Comcast Business Executive Forum at THE PLAYERS®, programming will offer attendees exclusive and in-depth perspectives on key topics including network performance, security, AI, and leadership and will be available to a wider audience via a live summit happening on April 15th.
